Frequency of dawn phenomenon and its associations with age, HbA1c and diabetes duration in Japanese type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) using the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS)

چکیده
Aims We defined the dawn phenomenon is an increase in either insulin requirements or the plasma glucose concentration, in the absence of preceding hypoglycemia or waning insulin levels, occurring between the hours of 0400 and 0800. According to previous studies, the frequency of dawn phenomenon is reported to be approximately 54.0% inpatients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM),and the poor glycemic control is associated with an exaggerated dawn phenomenon. The present studies were undertaken to assess the associations between dawn phenomenon and age at the time of the study, HbA1c and diabetes duration in Japanese T1DM showing the dawn phenomenon.

Short-term use of continuous glucose monitoring system adds to glycemic control in young type 1 diabetes mellitus patients in the long run: a clinical trial.
BACKGROUND/AIM Balancing strict glycemic control with setting realistic goals for each individual child and family can optimize growth, ensure normal pubertal development and emotional maturation, and control long term complications in children with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of short-term continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) application in...
متن کاملPrevalence and extent of glycemic excursions in well-controlled patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using continuous glucose-monitoring system.
BACKGROUND Continuous glucose-monitoring system (CGMS) is a tool for assessment of glycemic excursions. Glucose variability is a risk factor independent of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) for diabetic complications; hence CGMS may be a better method for management of diabetes. AIM To evaluate the extent of glycemic excursions in well-controlled type 2 diabetic patients. SETTING AND DESIGN T...
متن کاملEffectiveness of 3-Day Continuous Glucose Monitoring for Improving Glucose Control in Type 2 Diabetic Patients in Clinical Practice
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate whether adjusting diabetic treatment regimens according to the information obtained from a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) might lead to improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS We reviewed the medical charts of 172 patients who used the CGMS for 1 year starting in December 2008 and the records of 1,500...
متن کاملFrequency and Severity of the Dawn Phenomenon in Type 2 Diabetes Relationship to age
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODSdEighty-one individuals with type 2 diabetes were matched for HbA1c and divided by age into three subgroups of 27 individuals (1: $70 years; 2: 60–69 years; and 3: #59 years). All underwent ambulatory continuous glucose monitoring for quantifying the dawn phenomenon (i.e., the absolute [∂G, mg/dL] or relative [∂G%] increments from nocturnal nadirs to prebreakfast time...
متن کاملComparative analysis of the efficacy of continuous glucose monitoring and self-monitoring of blood glucose in type 1 diabetes mellitus.
BACKGROUND Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) have been proven effective in improving hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and in reducing hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). It is not clear, however, if CGM provides further efficacy and safety benefits beyond SMBG in the management of T1DM. METHODS MEDLINE (1966-November 2009), COCHRA...
